New Maine Boat Donation Program Benefits Donors and Buyers

Some people say the best days of a boat owner’s life are the day he buys his boat and the day he sells it. In Maine the decision to pass a boat onto a new owner has gotten a lot easier with the recent formation of the Maritime Funding Association of Maine, a new nonprofit that will help facilitate boat donations to three worthy coastal organizations. Charter members of the new association are the Apprenticeshop in Rockland, Friends of Casco Bay in South Portland, Maine Island Trail Association in Portland, Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, and Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport.

Maritime Funding Association of Maine, which was created by Block Island Maritime Funding, will facilitate all the paperwork, inspections, and tax requirements necessary when donating a boat to one of these five nonprofits. The association will also conduct a free boat evaluation to make sure that donors receive the most appropriate tax deduction for their charitable deduction.

Getting the best benefit on your taxes is a great incentive, but even better is seeing your boat passed on to a new, appreciative owner. Hey, this way two mariners can have the best day of their boat-owning lives!
