From Art to Vernal Pools, Dartmouth Is Alive in April

The Buzzards Bay Coalition has a full calendar of walks, events, and lectures on tap in Dartmouth during the month of April. Whether you’re interested in learning more about using the natural environment as an art medium or exploring some of Buzzards Bay’s most significant vernal pools, our partners and experts will keep you hopping this spring.

On Saturday, April 6, join nationally recognized artist Anastasia Azure on a creative journey at the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust (DNRT) and The Trustees of Reservation’s (TTOR) Slocum’s River Reserve in Dartmouth. Anastasia will lead participants in the exploration of “land art,” a process in which the landscape and work of art are inextricably linked. Deepen your connection to the watershed and discover a new way to enjoy your Bay.

While you’re at Slocum’s River Reserve, you can view The River Project, six large-scale site-specific sculptures that are the result of a collaoration between DNRT, TTOR, and talented local artists.

Then, on Saturday, April 13, join the Buzzards Bay Coalition and Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust on an exploration of a vernal pool at Parsons Reserve in Dartmouth. Bay Coalition education staff will lead participants on a hike through the reserve and will introduce the group to the property’s vernal pool and its interesting inhabitants. As a bonus, the hike will wind past the property’s daffodil field, where hundreds of daffodils bloom each spring. Be prepared for moderate walking on uneven terrain, rain or shine.
