Monhegan Regatta Returns With New Course, More Events

The longest and oldest offshore racing event on the Maine coast, the Monhegan Regatta, is returning to the Gulf of Maine regatta scene — but with a whole new vibe!

This offshore classic returns in 2013 with a brand new face, some brand new courses, and a brand new format. Portland Yacht Club and Wayfarer Marine are teaming up to present a destination race, starting Saturday, July 13, off Clapboard Island and ending off Camden Harbor. We’re starting a new tradition this year, bringing the challenge of distance sailing and the unparalleled destination of Penobscot Bay together at the best time of the summer for cruising, and racing along the Maine coast.

The race will feature an inshore and an offshore course, with class descriptions and requirements affording the broadest possible opportunities for participation. The racing festivities kick off Friday, July 12, with a party at Portland Yacht Club. The race starts Saturday morning in Casco Bay and ends outside of Camden Harbor with both offshore and inshore courses for racing machines and cruising platforms. The fun continues with an awards ceremony and party at Wayfarer Marine, located in beautiful downtown Camden. This party is hosted by Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors, so it’s sure to be a blast!

There are only a few opportunities each season to race overnight from Casco Bay to Penobscot Bay, and this is one you don’t want to miss!

We are arranging transportation of gear to Camden and crew back from Camden to make the logistics as easy as possible.
