Monthly High Tide Flooding Outlook – June 2026

Spring will go out like a lion this year, with more than a dozen U.S. harbors likely to flood in June due to tidal action alone. In New England, the major harbors of Portland, Maine, and Boston are both predicted to have higher than normal high tides (and lower than normal low tides) around the perigean spring tide on June 14, when the moon is new and closest to Earth, and during the full moon on June 29. Tides will increase up to and after the Summer Solstice on June 21, caused by the increased angle of the Sun relative to the Equator. On the West Coast, ports in Southern California are likely to see flooding (Monterey and Eureka are also likely to see higher water levels than usual), while every major harbor in the Hawaiian Islands is predicted to see high-tide flooding. An ocean storm or strong winds, should they happen to coincide with the dates of higher than normal tides, may exacerbate the coastal impact of these high-water events. Note that a harbor’s absence from this list, despite it being in proximity to a harbor that is (for example: Montauk, New York, and Woods Hole, Massachusetts, both of which are near harbors that are listed as seeing possible flooding, don’t make the list themselves), does not mean that flooding is not possible. Instead, it simply means that NOAA either does not have a sufficiently validated model to make an accurate prediction, or that the local hydrodynamics makes such a prediction impossible.
